Saturday, August 9
Beach Hang
12pm-3:30pm
Finney Street Beach (next to Summerland Beach)
August 9, 2025
Carpinteria, CA
We'll gather for a laid-back beach hang at one of our favorite beaches. Beach goodies, burritos, drinks and good tunes are guaranteed; feel free to bring your own chairs or shade!
We love this beach because it's typically quieter and more under-the-radar. Still, parking can be a challenge. We strongly encourage guests to take an Uber/Lyft!
Directions: Input Summerland Beach in maps. Instead of going into the parking lot for the main beach entrance, make a left on Wallace Ave. Drive about 30 - 60 seconds and make the last right on Finney Street. It will absolutely feel like you are about to get back on the freeway (and feels unnatural) but it is the last right before the onramp South. Cross the train tracks and the road will make an immediate left. You can park anywhere along the side and then walk down the ramp. (We do not recommend parking at Summerland Beach and walking over along the sand, because the beach can disappear with the tide.)

We encourage guests to choose a hotel or AirBnB in Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Summerland or Montecito. Here are some of our favorites!

Getting Here
Flying into Santa Barbara or Los Angeles
Flying into Santa Barbara: We highly encourage guests to fly into Santa Barbara's local airport (SBA). While this option may involve a connection, it will land you right outside town! Depending on where you're staying, you probably won't need to rent a car and can rely on Lyft/Uber and walking.
Flying into Los Angeles: Guests may also fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or Burbank (BUR). Upon arrival, you will need to rent a car and drive to Santa Barbara (approximately 2 hours from LAX and 1.5 hours from Burbank, depending on traffic) or take the train. Please note that LAX is an especially busy airport and is infamous for its lines. We highly encourage guests to leave extra time if flying into LAX/ BUR. See below for tips on driving from LA to Santa Barbara, and for information on taking the Surfliner rail.
Driving from LA
We know many out of town guests will be spending time before the wedding in Los Angeles! While you can take the 101 North to reach Santa Barbara (the most direct route), we highly encourage visitors to make a full day of it! You can take the scenic Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu, stopping at world-class beaches, seafood shacks, and gorgeous vista points along the way. (Please plan for traffic - especially on a Friday afternoon - and ask us for recs!)
Cruising with the Pacific Surfliner
The Pacific Surfliner (Amtrak) serves stations in San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. The train makes frequent trips between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and takes approximately 2.5-3 hours. Cruise along the coast with ocean views (and onboard snacks) and leave traffic behind! Catch the train at either Union Station in downtown Los Angeles or downtown Burbank.
From LAX, you can either take the FlyAway shuttle or an Uber/Lyft from the terminal to Union Station. If you're flying into Burbank, the train station is within walking distance.
Transportation in Town
Car rentals and rideshare services (Uber, Lyft) are readily available in Santa Barbara.
For the wedding on Sunday, we are arranging shuttle service between downtown Santa Barbara and the ceremony/ reception in Carpinteria and will have more information soon. (Please note there is no parking permitted at the venue.)
FAQs + Weekend Transportation Info
Is transportation provided to the wedding venue?
Yes! And as with many venues in Santa Barbara County, it's required. We have arranged shuttles to pick up guests from a central spot in downtown Santa Barbara, and drop off guests throughout the evening.
The shuttle will depart at 3:30pm from the Garden Street Visitor Center, located at 1 Garden St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. Look out for the black buses with white writing! Parking is available across the street in the Skater's Point lot, but we highly recommend taking an Uber or Lyft.
What is the dress code for the wedding?
Cocktail attire! The vibe of our wedding is natural, coastal, California cool (with a little disco). Please note that our reception and ceremony will be entirely outdoors. (It will be warm during the day but can get cool at night.)
Are children welcome?
We love your kids! The little ones are more than welcome to join Friday + Saturday events. But we are keeping our wedding day an intimate affair, and our reception and ceremony will be an adults-only. Thanks for your understanding!
Will there be other events throughout the weekend?
Yes! We hope you can join us for sunset drinks on Friday evening, and a casual beach hang on Saturday. More info will be added soon.
What will the weather be like?
Late summer in Santa Barbara is pretty perfect. You can expect high 70s-80s and sunshine during the day with slightly cooler temps into the late evening (60s).
Should I extend my stay in Santa Barbara?!
1000%! We love the area because there is SO much to enjoy and explore. Santa Barbara and the surrounding beach towns (including where we're getting married) are filled with incredible beaches, hiking trails on bluffs and through meadows and canyons, great shops and bookstores, cute cafes and world-class restaurants.
Also, Santa Barbara wine country is approx. 45 minutes away by car and is a favorite laidback getaway spot! You'll find picturesque wineries (including one that serves an insane lunch), rolling hills, great hotels, and some incredible dinner spots. Hit us up for recs!
Can I get you a wedding gift?
The best gift you can give us is coming to celebrate! It truly means the world that our guests will be traveling from near and far. But our Registry and Honeymoon Fund are available below. Alternatively, we would love for our guests to consider giving tzedaka (charity) to a social justice cause. Some organizations close to our heart are Mazon (fighting hunger), Democracy Forward, and anything helping immigrant kids.
What's the weekend soundrack?
Wedding Weekend playlist to come, stay tuned!
Registry
We’re thrilled to celebrate with you! Your joining us to celebrate is what truly matters. But, If you’d like to give a gift, we’ve got a registry (and Honeymoon Fund!) with some ideas.
We also would love for our guests to consider giving tzedaka (charity) to a social justice cause. Some organizations close to our heart are Mazon (fighting hunger), Democracy Forward, and anything helping immigrant kids.
Favorite Spots
We have so many favorite spots around Santa Barbara and the surrounding little towns of Montecito, Summerland and Carpinteria, and are excited for our guests to get to explore! Please see below for a list of some of our faves, and we're always happy to give additional recs to anyone spending more time in the area (highly recommend).
Downtown Santa Barbara
There's so much to explore by walking around downtown Santa Barbara and the "Funk Zone." We love taking a walk by the beautiful, historic Santa Barbara Courthouse and then grabbing lunch nearby. Pro tip: Check out the Courthouse clock tower!
Lotus Land
Ganna Walska Lotusland is a gorgeous non-profit botanical garden in Montecito, and the first botanic garden to focus exclusively on native plants! We recommend a morning at the gardens, followed by lunch at Field and Fort, a nature walk at Ennisbrook Park, or a dip in the Pacific.
Local Beaches
You'll be spoiled for choice! If you have a car, our favorites are Loon Point and Santa Claus (both in Carpinteria; bring a blanket and picnic and you're set) and Hendry's Beach ("Arroyo Burro"; grab brunch at the Boathouse Restaurant looking out at the waves). Also, Butterfly Beach and Miramar Beaches in Montecito are gorgeous; and you can't miss the local beaches right near the Funk Zone- a perfect break from exploring shops, restaurants and tasting rooms downtown.
Hike a Canyon
There are some incredible gentle hikes through the foothills and canyons. Sara's #1 favorite short (!) hike is Toro Canyon (need a car, and avoid midday when it's very hot and exposed). You'll pass avocado orchards, citrus groves, and have wide expanses of the mountains and canyons. It's a stunner! Nearby Inspiration Point is also worth checking out.
Coffee and Bites Around Town
There's no shortage of great coffee shops in town. Some of our favorites are Dune Coffee (check out their dog toys!), Dart Coffee (great garden) and Handlebar Coffee Roasters.
Santa Barbara Farmers Market
The Santa Barbara Farmers Market is buzzing on Saturday mornings! Check out the market in downtown Santa Barbara from 8am-1pm. The move here is to grab some goodies and bring a picnic to a nearby beach.
Explore the Bluffs
If you're renting a car, check out one of many local hikes on bluffs above the ocean. Our favorites are the Douglas Family Preserve (above Hendry's Beach, and the boathouse restaurant- see below) and Ellwood (a bit further out from town, but very special). Both nature walks are flat and easy, and cross through meadows and eucalyptus groves above the Pacific.
Field + Fort
Our go-to for a yummy breakfast or lunch, right by Godmothers Bookstore and near some of our favorite nature walks and beaches. They have a sunny patio and a fun homegoods store, too. (Pro tip: They give out free Bloody Mary's when it's particularly busy!)
Ennisbrook Open Space
Check out this easy nature walk in the beautiful, shaded Ennisbrook Park, located off a quiet road in Montecito. It's our pup Sunny's fave!
Godmothers Bookstore
Our favorite new bookstore! Godmothers is located in Summerland, just a few minutes north of Santa Barbara and Montecito. We recommend browsing their selection and then popping over to Field and Fort just up the street for a lazy lunch on the patio.
Dinner + Drinks
There are so many delicious dinner options around town, ranging from very casual to fine-dining. We love dining on the patio at Loquita, a Spanish spot with a beautiful, flowery patio. (Get the paella.) Feel free to reach out for specific food recs!
Santa Ynez Wine Country
If you're wondering whether you should take a day trip (or overnight) to the Santa Ynez Valley, the answer is always yes. Wine country is approximately 45 minutes away by car, and full of small wineries, rolling hills, great restaurants, and very sweet hotels and hip renovated motels. We love to share our favorites- let us know if you plan to go!
